Some of these think tanks, such as Danish CEPOS or Spanish Instituto Juan de Mariana have been shown to operate with money connected to Koch Industries (the US oil group). The think tanks themselves however are very secretive about their funding sources and there are no mechanisms in place that allow for proper scrutiny. The European Transparency Initiative, which includes the European Commission‘s lobby register, fails to cast any light on the shadowy world of think tank funding. Calzada es colaborador habitual de FAES y en el pasado estuvo tan activo en su grupo de trabajo sobre cambio climático y energía que es en parte responsable del coqueteo con el negacionismo de Aznar, que en enero incluso anunció su intención de acompañar a Calzada a la cumbre escéptica de Nueva York, aunque finalmente se echó atrás. La FAES ha movilizado a su red en EEUU para dar al informe de Calzada la máxima resonancia. Su centro de referencia en Washington es la Heritage Foundation guardián de las esencias conservadoras y muy vinculado a los republicanos, que ha promovido el documento en su tupida red y organizó un gran acto público en Washington con Calzada. El grupo News Corp., que tiene a Aznar como consejero, desempeñó el papel de lanzar el informe en el debate mediático estadounidense, lo que arrastró a todos los grandes medios. He’s also a fellow of the Center for New Europe, a Brussels-based libertarian think tank than in recent years apparently accepted funding from Exxon Mobil.» Additionally, ExxonSecrets.com reports that the «Center for New Europe» – where Gabriel Calzada is a visiting fellow – has received $170,000 form ExxonMobil since 1998. Calzada also is tied into the Heartland Institute, another well-known hub of climate science denial.”
