“According to a report on the investigation at Greenpeace’s EnergyDesk website, Princeton’s Professor William Happer had revealed he had accepted cash from coal company Peabody Energy in return for providing testimony to US congress but had routed the cash through a climate denial group. Happer also offered his services but said that a new climate science denial group, CO2 Coalition, should be used to channel the funds. Groups including the Global Warming Policy Foundation and Donors Trust are also alleged to have been complicit in providing “peer review” services for fossil fuel clients and, in the case of Donors Trust, in providing an untraceable route for the fossil fuel payments. … A DeSmogBlog investigation into Donors Trust and its partner group Donors Capital Fund found that between 2005 and 2012, some $479 million of income to the two groups was untraceable. Of the amounts that were traceable, DeSmog found that $7.65 million had come from the Knowledge and Progress Fund (KPF). On the KPF board are oil billionaire and major Republican benefactor Charles Koch, his wife Liz and son Charles Chase Koch. Richard Fink, a Koch company director and long-standing aide to Charles Koch, is also a KPF director.”

“Greenpeace also claims that CO2 Coalition board member William O’Keefe, a former Exxon lobbyist, had suggested in an email to Happer that Donors Trust be used as a route to conceal cash from a fictional Middle eastern oil and gas company. The investigation also targeted Happer’s work with the London-based contrarian group the Global Warming Policy Foundation, founded by former UK chancellor Lord Nigel Lawson. Greenpeace wrote: Professor Happer, who sits on the GWPF’s Academic Advisory Council, was asked by undercover reporters if he could put the industry funded report through the same peer review process as previous GWPF reports they claimed to have been “thoroughly peer reviewed”. Happer explained that this process had consisted of members of the Advisory Council and other selected scientists reviewing the work, rather than presenting it to an academic journal. He added: “I would be glad to ask for a similar review for the first drafts of anything I write for your client. Unless we decide to submit the piece to a regular journal, with all the complications of delay, possibly quixotic editors and reviewers that is the best we can do, and I think it would be fine to call it a peer review.” Asked for comment by Greenpeace, the GWPF said in a statement that it rejected Greenpeace’s investigation, saying any claims it had offered to put a fossil fuel commission report through its own version of peer review were a “fabrication”.”

“William Happer of Princeton University William Happer is an emeritus physics professor with Princeton University and former Director of the CO2 Coalition, a group formed in 2015 out of the former George C. Marshall Institute, where Happer was also previously chairman of the board. “We’re doing our best to counter this myth that CO2 is a dangerous pollutant,” he claimed. “It’s not a pollutant at all.” He called those who claim that it is are part of the “CO2 defamation league.” Meanwhile, Happer said most of the pollution in China does not originate from the oil, gas, or coal industries. Instead, what is that pollution’s point of origin? The Gobi Desert. He said: “If you have a well-designed coal plant, what comes out of the stack is almost the same that comes out of a person’s breath. Most of it is water and CO2. It’s actually running, but nothing comes out of the stack. These plants are completely benign. What comes out of here is fine. It’s not a lot different from your own breath.”.”

“The climate alarmists have people calculating their so-called “carbon footprint” which is how much CO2 they cause to be generated. Everyone should be proud of their carbon footprint; it is helping feed the world. Make it bigger, not smaller. For more on the miracle of carbon dioxide, check out the CO2 Coalition. For a lot of the science see the CO2 Science website. ”

“E&E News’ Scott Waldman reported how the denier group CO2 Coalition has been able to run ads on Facebook based on claims that aren’t supported by peer-review climate science. In one instance last year, Waldman found that independent fact-checkers flagged the post as false, temporarily blocked it, but a conservative staffer at Facebook overrode them to remove the false label. Ever since, the CO2 Coalition was able to share its false content because Facebook categorized it as “opinion” and therefore exempt from fact-checking. CO2 Coalition, a group that is organized around the “important contribution made by carbon dioxide to our lives and the economy,” has benefitted from the special treatment. CO2 Coalition’s executive director, Caleb Rossiter acknowledged to E&E News that Facebook has been integral to expanding its influence … While climate deniers like the Heartland Institute and Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow have benefited from the loophole, Facebook has created new obstacles for climate scientists in their efforts to promote their work. Climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, a lead author of the fourth National Climate Assessment studying global warming’s effects on the United States, found that Facebook blocked her in 2018 from promoting educational videos on climate science, some of which were peer-reviewed by NOAA, and has since classified her postings as “environmental politics.” ”
CO2 Coalition – Wikipedia, 29/08/2020 – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CO2_Coalition
“The CO2 Coalition is a nonprofit climate change denial advocacy organization in the United States founded in 2015. The group’s claims are disputed by the vast majority of climate scientists. The organization has 55 members. The organization been funded by energy industry firms and conservative activists who oppose climate change mitigation policies, such as the Mercer Family Foundation and Koch brothers. It is viewed as the successor to the George C. Marshall Institute. The CO2 Coalition was one of over 40 organizations to sign a letter dated May 8, 2017, to president Donald Trump thanking him for his campaign promise to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, an action Trump announced 3 weeks later on June 1, 2017.”
